2016 CHOC Walk in the Park

Courageous Cousins (Team Riley & Mighty Max)

We are participating in the CHOC Walk in the Park on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Disneyland®Resort.

For the last 3 years we've given back to CHOC in honor of all of the individuals who were involved with saving Riley's life on December 27, 2012.

Riley contracted bacterial meningitis and suffered severe brain damage as a result.  If it wasn't for the PICU team at CHOC we aren't sure Riley would still be with us.  Having been given another chance with Riley we came up with the motto "Fight On".  It stuck and we continue to Fight On each and every day for Riley.  More of Riley's story can be found at hopperhousehold.blogspot.com.

In late Spring 2016 we were all anxiously awaiting the arrival of Riley's newest cousin, Max, when Max's parents Brad and Kara found out that Max would have a CHD (Childhood Heart Defect).  The first place Max's parents went after receiving this news was to CHOC. Kara was closely monitored by Dr. Doshi and her team while Max was still in utero.

Max ended up being born at Lucille Packard in Palo Alto and after a rough first few months had his big open heart surgery on July 29th 2016.  His mommy Kara has done a wonderful job of documenting Max's journey on their blog.   mightymaxmceachern@blogspot.com

Max is now HOME! He had a complete repair done and will be followed (for life) by a cardiologist.  Today he visits CHOC frequently to check in with Dr. Doshi and continue to monitor his progress as he grows and thrives after major open heart surgery.  A true miracle!

As a family we've all always come together to do the CHOC Walk for Riley.  As our family grew and Max became a patient at CHOC we knew our team name needed to change to honor both Riley and Max.... and so the name Courageous Cousins (Team Riley & Mighty Max) was born.

We hope you'll support our family in our fundrasing efforts for a hospital very important to all of us!

XOXOXO

The Hopper & McEachern Families
